TWiT.tv for Windows 8 and RT

TWiT.tv will be coming out for Windows 8 and Windows RT!

I'm currently in the early stages of creating TWiT.tv for the new Start Experience / Modern UI / Metro. I am beginning this endeavor as a somewhat academic exercise in seeing what it takes to migrate a Windows Phone 7.x app to Windows using the new WinRT APIs, and perhaps that might even include an update for Windows Phone 8. I'd also like to go beyond the functionality offered in the phone version. The use cases for a phone versus a tablet or a PC are significantly different and the two applications will reflect that.

In my experience thus far the WinRT API is more capable and reliable than the Windows Phone API. I am very disappointed with the Windows Phone 7 environment, it lacks stability, robustness, and performance is often questionable. In hindsight I should have seen that disappointment coming because of the combination of a Windows CE kernel with a smattering of Silverlight on top was always doomed for such a fate.

At any rate look forward to more updates and with any luck TWiT.tv for Windows under the Christmas tree.

TWiT.tv in Windows Phone Marketplace

The TWiT.tv app has been approved by Microsoft for sale in the Windows Phone Marketplace!

Download TWiT.tv for Windows Phone for just $0.99!

I'm really excited to have completed my first app for the marketplace and to have it up for sale. The approval process was a little bit slower than I had anticipated and I had to resubmit as expected; but the information provided by Microsoft through create.msdn.com and the developer dashboard was pretty helpful.

I'm proud of the app; I don't expect to set the world on fire in terms of sales or anything, but I'm still excited to have completed my first app and have it on the marketplace in just a little over a month. Most importantly I hope that it will be the first of many projects I do under the Finely Crafted Software banner.

TWiT.tv is Coming

I've always been a big fan of TWiT.tv, and I regularly listen with the iPhone app for TWiT. When I switched over to Windows Phone the only TWiT app didn't support background audio, so it was an obvious choice for my first app.

Unfortunately right around the time I finished my app the existing TWiT app updated to support background audio, but rather than shelve TWiT.tv I actually believe that it does several things better than the existing TWiT app (including live background audio) and choice and competition is certainly a good thing.

Hello World

I'm passionate about developing software.

I'm passionate about technology.

I'm passionate about building things that are useful.

I don't have any dilusions about changing the world or making a million billion dollars off of my little apps; but they are fun for me to work on and hopefully others out there will get some enjoyment and benefit from what I make too.

My goal is to make a few selected applications that I would want to use and that are of exceptional quality (hence the name).
